MILAN AW16 FASHION WEEK RECAP

So here we are again! Another AW16 Fashion Week round up. If you’ve only just joined us on this journey, then this is where I do a roundup of some of the amazing designers who showed off-schedule at this seasons fashion week.

If you thought that you were all caught up, then I’d think again! I hope that by the end of this series, you might have just found yourself a new favourite brand.
Let’s get on with our next city then shall we, Ciao Milan!

BALLY

Bally’s imagery instantly caught my eye with the checkered floor that instantly set off a 60s vibe for Mary Quant style miniskirts and pointed shoes. Although the checks on the floor are monochrome, this collection wasn’t far from colour with lime greens and luxurious reds.

Again (as with the past two cities) there’s a recurring trend of a delicate bow tie, this time on an open back mod dress to add a little interest to a monochrome outfit.

DONDUP

Who doesn’t love a good double denim piece? Dondup took a classic item and made it their own, deconstructing the outfit but with carefully lazer cut circles. The collection, called Cosmic Punk,  feels rebellious but not threatening.

Creative director Manuela Mariotti spoke of “a new renaissance achieved through energy, not destructive but creative”.

I love the outfit below that Mariotti named a ‘Space Oddity’ with a fishscale shiny t-shirt with XX long sleeves paired with matching bralette and pleated skirt.

It’s a juxtaposition and the opposition of femininity with masculinity and delicateness with something tough, that makes the whole collection so endearing.

PIAZZA SEMIPONE

This collection is beautiful simply in it’s simplicity. A collection full of timeless pieces that can be taken as worn as separates, but when worn together look impeccably elegant.

The collection was a focus on daywear, something that a lot of brands have recently made a larger part of their ready to wear collections.

The collection as a whole is a master class in the art of simplicity and I’m eager to see what they will bring for Spring, and whether they will incorporate some more stand out pieces in amongst these timeless classics.
