A RESTRICTED LIGHTNESS

So if you are constantly engaging in the online fashion community, like myself, then you’ll probably have noticed the rise of the wide silk choker wrapped around most peoples necks. Now sure, you can probably find these to buy online easily (although I did find this quite difficult, but found a few on etsy here) but I’m sure that, like me, you’ll find a few silk lace trimmings hanging around in your mums craft box that make for a much more genuine piece, as well as saving you some bucks!

As hailed by the queen Margaret Zhang, a wide silk black choker is your key accessory for Spring Summer ’16 and chokers were also a large statement at Dior SS16, where for his final show, Raf Simons put large embellished chokers on his girls combined with the patent bow tied shoes that seemed to be pulled as tightly as possible around the foot. He said he wanted there to be ‘a lightness’ to his final collection, but there was certainly a sense of restriction and things being air tight mixed with the lightness of the clothes, hair and makeup (which I think makes a good comment for how he felt about emotionally about the current fashion system). This juxtaposition between these two oppositions is what I think makes for the most interesting stylistic looks, whether that’s a mix of masculine and feminine or light and heavy fabrics. So try tucking a wavy hairstyle into your choker and let the loose waves naturally fall out and gracefully fall around your face to add a slight bit of femininity against the harsh thickness of your choker.

Can I also just mention that I haven’t worn skinny pants in SUCH a long time!? I don’t know how I was swayed into the temptations of a looser and comfier fit of pant but here I am buying yet more wide legged pants! I feel like skinny pants will soon become a point of reference for the last 10 years or so of fashion when we look back and grimace at our fashion faux-pas, like low cut jeans and the wide waist belts.

These pants are a bit more workwear-y than what I’d usually go for, but I think paired with a cotton loose t shirt, and even some trainers, that they can make for a more casual, day appropriate outfit. What do you guys think?
