Coffee Run in Manchester

I’m not usually one for spontaneity, although I try and get myself out of my comfort zone as often as I can, sometimes a suggestion of a last minute trip makes me feel all panicky inside and unorganized. Thankfully, I managed to let that slide for a less than 12 hour trip to Manchester which was bound to end up becoming an adventure trail on the hunt for the best coffee spot.

If you do ever head to Manchester, then the Northern Quarter is by far the best place (in my opinion) for a walk around to discover some niche cafes, quirky craft and lifestyle shops, second-hand vintage steals, independent coffee roasters and if you fancy, a good beer too.

Admittedly, being a bit of a coffee snob, I thought that I’d introduce to two of the cafes that we happened to stumble upon our travels.

Fig + Sparrow
20 Oldham Street, Manchester

I had heard whispers here and there about this place and so it was at the top of my list for places to visit. Sure, it’s a bit, what might some call it… hipster? But I freaking am all over that. Good design, quirky interior, delicious food, friendly staff and most importantly, delicious well-brewed coffee… what is there not to like!

Being used to London rates, I enjoyed the avocado on toast at what I thought was a rather reasonable price! Honestly, it’s the little things isn’t it. If you do come here, make sure you take the time to browse around the shop that they have at the front of the shop. You’ll find some adorable ethical and well-sourced homeware bits and bobs which make for perfect gifts, along with a large selection of cards and wrapping paper to go with it too! Just try not to get too carried away with taking the whole shop home…

Foundation Coffee

Sevendale House, Lever St, Manchester

Funnily enough, I happened to stumble upon this place after I begrudgingly agreed to head to a second hand photography store with my boyfriend. By chance, he needed a toilet and so we nipped in next door and just so happened to step into this gem of a place! In afterthought, I don’t think it was much of a surprise at all, life has a funny way of leading us into places and things that we unconsciously want to find.

This place truly is everything that #instagoals entails. If I had my own coffee shop, then I would most definitely have designed it pretty much like this place. I didn’t order a coffee as I’d just had one at Fig + Sparrow, but I’ve heard on the grapevine that I’ve missed out on something great.

This place is massive and so is great if you want to have a bit of a laptop club, have a meeting, catch up with old or new friends, or even to go and treat yourself to a brew on your own! I seriously wish that I had a place like this near me to go and work on the laptop so if you live in Manchester, I’m hella jealous!

On the way between the two places I’d make a quick stop at Magma, one of my most favourite magazine/book shops. I’ve only been to the one in London before, not realizing that we had one up North! If you love finding and reading independent and niche magazines, then this place is for you. I believe that just recently they’ve started selling quirky cards and gifts too which are always a pleasure to look at!
