Cherry Blossom

Embroidery has been everywhere this past season. From the top of Gucci sliders, to the back of fuel shine bomber jackets and leather jackets galore to the little slogans on the side of a white tee, we have gone embroidery mad! Personally, I think it adds such a sweet touch to an outfit. I really want to use the word ‘cute’ but I don’t think that’s quite what I’m going for, just more of a fun and easy way to add more interest to an outfit.

I love this particular jacket for the American Baseball feel it has with the black, red and white striped trim chevron pattern it has along the sleeves, giving it that preppy vibe. I have a lot of bomber jackets in my wardrobe, but this one is like any other. It’s a quilted, soft but firm fabric that fits around the body quite well, something that I always to find of great importance when looking for a jacket as it gives that look of expense, as if it’s been made especially for you.

I wore this look for the third day of London Fashion Week as one of my more casual looks of the week – ensuring that I was wearing Stan Smith’s as I was using the tube and my own two feet to get around the city – and I was pleasantly surprised at how many compliments I received on it! The general centre of attention was on the floral pattern on the back of the jacket that to me, looks like the beginnings of a cherry blossom tree only in varying colours. I aren’t that knowledgeable on flowers, so if you know it’s any different then please do let me know in the comments below! But I like the idea of cherry blossom, as it couldn’t be a more timely reference as we approach the first days of Spring and enter the month of March, which is typically the month when the cherry blossom’s first begin to bloom.

Whenever I hear the word ‘Spring’, I can’t help but singing along to the song by Noah and The Whale which goes ‘It’s the first day of Spring / And my life is starting over again’. If I remember correctly, I do think that the song itself was referencing a breakup, but I find that the beginning of Spring offers this sense of renewal and starting afresh. Perhaps even more so than the New Year does. As the days start to get warmer and the evenings get lighter, I instantly get this ‘spring’ in my step and my lift in my mood. Ah, it finally feels like the start of something new. (*que cheesy High School Musical song*)
