The Noughties Called, They Want Their Cowl Neck Back

The noughties are making a strong comeback this season for Summer ’18 and the cowl neck has quickly become one of the strongest trends to hit the current fashion scene.

It’s hardly a surprise considering fashion’s current obsession with the 90s and #majorthrowback vibes.  Instagram accounts like @90sanxiety have racked up thousands of followers who are keen to get their daily dose of Kate Moss and Paris Hilton, with brands like Reformation and Rat + Boa seeing much success by focusing their designs and aesthetic around this era. Models of the moment Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner have only helped to cement the late 90s/early 00’s as THE look and in many ways, inspired us to recreate similar looks ourselves. Think spaghetti straps, low rise jeans and THAT Paris Hilton silver chain cowl neck dress. When Kendall Jenner wore a similar version for her birthday in November, it wasn’t long before we saw high street stores follow suit.

Admittedly, I myself have been sucked into the allure and casual glamour that a cowl neck can offer. It creates such a flattering neckline, looks great worn with jeans and exudes that level of effortlessness that I’m constantly trying to create in my looks. In fact, Topshop has possibly the most variety of cowl neck options I have seen on the high street so far and all in that luxurious lava-like satin.

It’s been a while since I went out to shoot looks for the blog and in all honesty, it gave me such a huge sense of exuberance in doing so! If you read my post on Anxiety, then you’ll know I’ve been going through a bit of a rough patch in finding my inner confidence and pursuing a life of work I love. With each step I take towards regaining my spirit and joy, I feel my sense of excitement at what this little corner of the internet brings me come flooding back. Life truly is too short to not spend it doing what you love and I from here on out, am creating no more excuses and refuse to hold myself back any further! *grimaces slightly* One step at a time…

So what are your thoughts on the cowl neck? Is it a trend you’ll be trying? Leave me a comment below!
