Birthday Month

I saw Anna’s post yesterday on her highlights from June and it really inspired me to do my own! June has been such a wonderful month for me for many reasons, so I really wanted to recap on all the exciting things that have happened!

My 23rd birthday

Yep, this was the year I turned 23. It feels so strange typing that! 22 still felt young to me but, 23? I feel like I have truly entered the ‘adult’ age. Age is such a strange concept and it can bring up so many anxieties for people. But we must remember that we are all on our own journeys and we must not compare our Chapter 1 to someone else’s Chapter 30. Everything that happens in our life is for a reason. So long as we trust ourselves that we are taking risks and opportunities, then we must feel grateful for each birthday and let it spur us on to make the most of many more years to come.

Parklife Festival

We’d had Parklife planned for a while, since the tickets were released in fact! I’ve been dying to see Dave for ages and he certainly didn’t disappoint. The whole weekend was such a blast, being able to see some of my favorite R&B and Hip Hop artists that I’ve been admiring for so long, a lot of them still fairly up and coming. I also managed to get on stage with N.E.R.D! Pharrell asked 40 people to get on stage and of course, it all got a bit out of hand… Unfortunately, I was a bit too under the influence to try and find Pharrell and got too caught up in the moment. Safe to say I have some hilarious pictures and random pictures of a girl who asked me to take her photo, haha!

Beyoncé + Jay-Z: OTR II

I received a text from my older sister asking if I wanted to go see Beyoncé and Jay Z for my birthday present. I was like, are you srsly asking? Yes!! I had honestly come to terms with the fact that I may never get round to seeing Beyoncé live so I was ecstatic! It was the first leg of the tour and those two definitely know how to put on an unforgettable show. Every time I see the visuals that Beyoncé does, the creativity and thought that goes into every single moment I feel SO inspired to create. I feel this acceptance for me to express my true self and explore my creativity. I also recognised a few of the dance moves from Coachella, so that put my FOMO aside.

A trip home and to Wales

I took two weeks off at the beginning of this month to go home for my birthday and spend a week down in Wales for an overdue visit to my sister and niece. I’d been feeling quite low before I left and wanted to take some time away to recharge. A visit home is always about reconnecting, not at least with family and friends but with myself too. There’s nothing like spending a week in a small, country town and on the coastline to reflect. It’s a lot different to the pressures I feel from the city life and I value the time I spend with my family very much.

Shoot, shoot, shoot

I definitely feel like I came back from my time off refreshed, full of ideas and enthusiasm. So I put the plans into motion to start shooting and creating more content. I met up with Jess Cheng of The Style Cat to shoot some looks (including these from my last cowl neck trend post) which was such a great day. I also met up with another blogger to be on the other side of the camera and shoot some looks and video around Notting Hill. I absolutely fall in love with this creative process and being the person directing the shoot. Scouting the location, framing the shots, editing the pictures, experimenting with new techniques and effects. Flexing your creative muscles is something that we all must do on a regular occasion and I forgot how happy it makes me feel doing so!
