I may have gone a bit overboard with the title of this one but as soon as it came into my head, it was stuck. Don’t be confused, I’m not talking about Sean Combs nor am I singing the wrong J Hus lyrics, I’m actually talking about the rise of the puff sleeve. Sleeves have been having a major moment in fashion, in every and any variety. Having hit it off in Spring/Summer, we can see the item transitioning into Autumn pieces so we can safely say that the statement sleeve is here to stay. More recently, Victorian-esque pieces are having a moment in button-up blouses and mutton-of-leg sleeves, which are some of my favorite pieces.
From Louis Vuitton’s SS18 poet sleeves to 80s volume at Off-White, a hybrid of the two eras has resulted in this dramatic trend. I love how they instantly update the LBD and how great they look paired with jeans. To be totally honest, I think this was the first time that I have worn a puff sleeve and I did feel a little exposed. There’s something about a power shoulder that commands attention, but I love how understated this look actually is.
Zara has been nailing this style of dress and I love how they have transitioned it for their A/W collection in this simple and elegant all-black look. The only thing that could make this dress more perfect is a row of tortoise buttons down the front.
What do you think? Are you loving all the puff sleeve items in stores right now or should the power shoulder stay in the 80s? Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram!
