Styling Slip Skirts: Part One

I’ve been obsessed with slip skirts ever since I saw the collection¬†By Malene Birger x Pernille Teisbaek that was released at the beginning of this year. I love Pernille’s scandi, effortless style and constantly look to her Instagram for styling inspiration (coincidentally she also has a book called Dress Scandinavian that I need to get my hands on). The slip skirt was everywhere this Summer (I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve referenced that Realisation Par Leopard Print number) and the item transitions SO well into any Autumn/Winter wardrobe.

How To Style:

My favorite way to style the slip skirt Autumn is to pair with an oversized, knit jumper. Depending on the fit of the jumper and length, you can either tuck into the skirt (pulling it out a little so it drapes over the top of the skirt) or leave untucked Рwhich you can also achieve by pulling on a jumper over the top of a slip dress you already own. The piece is so versatile too which makes it a perfect capsule wardrobe item.

For the day, I love subverting its femininity by pairing with chunky trainers and casual accessories. Then for the evening, you can pair with a spaghetti strap cami, heeled sandals, a smart blazer and statement earrings.

Most of the slip skirts that have been on the market til’ now have been sold by more contemporary brands (that is brands like Ganni and Vince that are the bridge between high-street/low-price and luxury). Thankfully, the high street has finally served up their offerings on the slip skirt – also referred to as bias cut or satin skirt – and they don’t disappoint!

The Topshop skirts are unfortunately still sold out online the majority of the time (you can usually find the odd size if you keep checking), but I’d recommend going in store to Oxford Circus for your best chance of nabbing one. Thankfully, I found a super similar black bias cut skirt on Urban Outfitters that’s still at a really affordable price point and have linked some more alternatives below!
