Blanc: White. Considered one of the most plainest and purest colours on the spectrum and one which has a complexity of meanings.
Some day’s I feel blanc, like nothing. I feel emotionless (yet totes emosh) and like a blank canvas in which all my emotions can paint themselves onto. Today is one of those days, where Easter weekend has stolen the promise of Spring with grey skies and dark clouds that bring the threat of showers at any moment.
I think this is a common feeling as a creative, artists block or creative frustration is the term I think most used to describe this feeling.
I’m not one to wear a lot of bright colours, but an all white ensemble is quite a statement in itself. Running the risk of looking like a dentist, I came to embrace the feeling of power that being bold, in the quietest of colours, can bring to you.
I’m one of those people who are afraid of a blank piece of paper. I could stare at it for hours overwhelmed the endless amount of possibilities and stunned by the paradox of choice, in which the opportunities this piece of blank paper could offer is boundless.
White is considered pure, a fresh start, a blank canvas in which there is so much possibility that could be drawn on. In a way, this is most frightening. The infinite number of things that could happen, the thrill of the future and the fear that it brings, there is so much that could be lost yet nothing at all.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
-Marianne Williamson
So I want us to take action. To not be fearful of our power. To stop feeling incapable of our own abilities and to live our life for ourselves. To stare at a blank piece of paper and to embrace the emotion and power it brings, then to scribble as furiously and passionately as our hands will let us.
